This past summer I was honored to accept the position of Editor-at-Large for CVObserver. Not only do I believe in AMG Media’s crusade for news, but also believe in its staff and foundation. The past six months have not only been an eye opener to the beast that is Fresno politics, but also has been an education on how I best can assist the publication and community.
Outside of my duties of Editor at large, it has been my responsibility to promote CVObserver. My role as political analyst at KSEE 24 and regular guest on 580 KMJ led me to begin production of my own program called “Unfiltered with Jim Verros”. The show was to be recorded live at a number of locations and launch on CVObserver January 1st.
While discussing the program with media outlets, a number of inquires were made about the possibility of either bringing Unfiltered to their network, or having me as a host of program that would be produced by their channel. Both television and radio I feel are important ever changing outlets that are essential to informing the Valley of the ongoings of the political process.
I made a statement last year that “You can be TMZ or the News, you can’t be both.” Well, I firmly believe you cannot host/produce your own program and also keep a firm eye on the opinion process of other writers fairly.
I have made a decision to step down as Editor-At-Large at CVObserver.
In the coming weeks, I will be making an announcement that will address my upcoming decision on which media outlet I will be joining. But once I felt that I was going in this direction, I felt it was necessary to recuse myself from my current role.
I want to thank CVObserver, AMG Media Group for this tremendous opportunity to take the reins here. I also want to thank Alex Tavlian for getting me situated during the transition. Lastly, I want to wish the best of luck to the group and CVO’s new editor, Guillermo Moreno, in their endeavors moving forward.
