The U.S. Office of Special Counsel has opened a case into illegal political activity on the part of Dr. Humberto Gomez, Jr., a candidate for Region 8 Director for the California Democratic Party, according to an email obtained by CVObserver on Thursday afternoon.
Gomez, an FDA consumer safety officer, is alleged to have violated the Federal Hatch Act, which bars Federal employees of certain political activities.
The email obtained by CVObserver, the Office of Special Counsel informed the filers of the initial complaint against Gomez that the case has been opened in anticipation of an investigation.
Sources previously told CVObserver that Gomez’s candidacy and fundraising activities behalf of himself and an ambiguously-defined PAC, were barred by the Hatch Act for Federal employees in the same class as Gomez.
Meanwhile, Gomez announced via Facebook on Thursday morning than Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula was supporting his bid for the Region 8 directorship:
“I’m excited to endorse my friend, Dr. Humberto Gomez Jr. for Regional 8 Director of the California Democratic Party. Dr. Gomez and I share similar stories. We were both raised in the Valley by strong mothers, while our fathers worked long hours to empower the less fortunate. We both returned to the valley to serve our community after obtaining our M.D. Now, we are both dedicated to solving the greatest political challenges of our generation. I hope you will join me in supporting Dr. Gomez. We need his grassroots credentials and commitment to Progressive policies to unite Valley Democrats.”
