Even in the heart of the Valley’s reddest county, it seems that there’s still a need to patrol government waste.

Welcome to Tulare County, home of a brand-spanking-new taxpayers association. It’s named – you guessed it – the Tulare County Taxpayers Association.

The association is helmed by Chris Telfer, of Visalia-based transformer service Western Utilities. Telfer is a former executive director of the California College Republicans and has deep roots in Tulare County.

“Tulare County has a strong record of fiscal responsibility,” Telfer said. “But the people need an organization that will focus on furthering that record and holding our representatives accountable.”

The Board of Directors includes Ryan Jennings, of Principal Financial; Clayton Reynolds, of Exeter Irrigation District and unofficial mayor of Lemon Cove; Cody De Silva, of Clark Pest Control; and David Telfer, of Telfer&Sons Construction.

The new watchdog bills itself to keep an eye on tax hike proposals in Tulare County along with continuing Proposition 13 and pushing for pro-growth policies across municipalities.

It’s great to have a local organization dedicated to fighting for taxpayers. Do you coordinate efforts with organizations such as California Taxpayers, with Howard Jarvis Taxpayers? Do you hold meetings? Do you have membership dues? We are interested. Let us know.
